Volunteering with DACT

Volunteers are the life blood of DACT. Our volunteers give up their time to support the community. These are the people that are a key factor in the success of DACT

In 2016/17 our volunteers carried out 59,179 hours of volunteering to deliver all of our services

DACT is seeking enthusiastic volunteers of all ages to help continue to run all of our schemes and further develop our work. We are looking for car and minibus drivers, people who can do leaflet drops, work in the mobility shop and also anyone with relevant skills for repairing mobility scooters and wheelchairs. By giving just a few hours you can learn practical skills, meet new people and make a real difference to the lives of our members.

All Volunteer drivers are checked through the Disclosure & Barring Service checks (previously known as CRB checks).

All Volunteer minibus drivers are given training

to the MiDAS standard

Car Scheme Drivers - Could you take people to attend medical appointments? Appointments may be local, but may also be further afield to specialist hospitals in places like Oxford, London etc. Volunteer Car Drivers are currently paid 45 pence a mile by the passenger to cover the cost of fuel and vehicle overheads.

Minibus Drivers – Can you offer a few hours a day? Or could you spare a whole day and drive a community group or school to a variety of locations such as educational centres, sporting events, shopping centres, tourist attractions, garden centres, seaside resorts and many more. This work can be very rewarding as drivers build a rapport with many groups and the bonus is you get to enjoy the venue you visit as well.

Volunteer MiDAS Trainers - Would you like to teach other volunteers to drive a minibus? DACT have volunteers that are trained up to be MiDAS trainers. Our trainers can train you to drive a Minibus to MiDAS standards and issue a 4 year certificate.

Dact Mobility Shop – Do you like meeting new people? Do you like to keep active and busy?  Volunteers in the DACT Mobility shop help with hiring mobility scooters and wheelchairs as well as selling a vast array of mobility aids. Full training is given, however if you like to talk to people and are looking to join a friendly team and enjoy socialising this could be the place for you to volunteer.

Pitstop – Do you like the challenge of fixing things? Are you a problem solver? Can you change a tyre, repair a puncture? We have a workshop where we service and repair mobility scooters and wheelchairs. We are always looking for volunteers who like to tinker and get their hands dirty!

Volunteer Leaflet Drops – Do you enjoy walking? Could you deliver some leaflets in your own time? DACT covers a very large rural area and is always reliant on the goodwill of volunteers to promote all of our services. If you can carry a few leaflets and enjoy getting out and about you could deliver leaflets to some of those more remote villages or town centre estates.
